"Specificity and communication are the keys to the future of media"
"Communicating with communities is the most important thing in the online media business", CEO of IDG Communications, Bob Carrigan emphasized that communication is to be considered the priority to strengthen competitiveness in online media.
IDG, the world's leading media, research, and events company, has more than 450 websites, over 300 publications, and produces more than 750 conferences and events globally. Bob Carrigan is in charge of IDG's events, publications and online businesses.
He came to Korea to celebrate the launch of IDG's online news service, and to support IDG Korea's event business. He believes that specificity and communication are the key features of media's future. "These days, many existing and new online media companies are flooding the market with various services. In order to grow and succeed in a fierce market, we need to attract customers to visit our websites", he said.
He added, "The online media market will grow faster and faster, so it is crucial to develop a customer oriented media service by communicating with online communities continuously."
IDG's 450 online sites have made a great effort in communication with online communities by linking to social network services. IDG Korea (www.idg.co.kr), started its news service on 2th July, and will make communication with readers as a top priority. Furthermore, Carrigan plans to launch an online social network service in Korea.
"Giving maximum autonomy to each country and each division, IDG could successfully operate over 700 on/off-line media worldwide," he said, "we will support IDG Korea to revitalize existing and develop new specialized services."
"Last year IDG earned the highest revenues since it was founded in 1964, and it was possible because we always aim for the micro market," Carrigan added. "With regard to the media business, Korean companies have to gain a deep understanding of customer's needs."
