IDG (International Data Group), a leading global IT media & venture capital firm, is planning to restructure its Korea branch office by recruiting industry experts and expanding the conference/event business, Mr. Patrick McGovern, Chairman of IDG stated at a news conference on February 21st.
IDG, founded in 1964, is the world's leading technology media, research and event company. IDG provides various types of media conference/event solutions to more than 200 million technology buyers in 92 countries. Mr. McGovern’s recent visit to Korea reflects his efforts to strengthen the globally emerging industry of IT conference/event in Korea, where the IT media industry is an embryonic stage.
IDG Korea will provide a broad range of products and services, including technology and consumer product reviews, SNS-based job recruiting services, online IT& finance education and a web 2.0 information portal. The IT news service will be delivered to the subscribers for 24 hours a day from the articles that were written and accumulated by more than 2,000 IT specialists and journalists as well as IDC research analysts throughout the world. IDG will engage in partnerships with the local internet companies and they will work together to develop revolutionary online contents and solutions.
In addition, conference/event business will include IDG’s traditional brand name conferences such as MAC World, Linux World, CIO Forum, Demo, and EforAll. The conferences will offer opportunities to introduce the local technologies that have the potential to receive global recognition and scrutinize the rapidly changing business environment in Korea.
To proceed smoothly with its restructuring plans, IDG Korea has hired Won Sang Cha as the head of the Online-Media business and Hyun Mi Park as the head of Conference/Event Business
Mr. McGovern stated that the IT industry in Korea is very dynamic and Korea has one of the world’s leading IT infrastructures. However, despite these advantages, conference/event industry in Korea is surprisingly underdeveloped. Mr. McGovern also added that collaborating with the business partners and fully utilizing IDG’s capabilities and global networks in China, Vietnam, and India will allow IDG to achieve tremendous success.
